What Does The Catechism Teach About Abortion?

Many Catholics do not know what their Church teaches, or why - but most of us do know the difference between right and wrong. Always - we are to "Speak the Truth in Love" Ephesians 4:15.

So what is the truth regarding Church teaching on abortion? All Church teaching is garnered from Scripture - the Word of God.
Let's take a look at an excerpt from The Catechism Part Three - Life in Christ:

2273 The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and it's legislation:  The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority.

Since this is true - how can any Catholic justify supporting or voting for a politician who advocates for abortion legislation?

The catechism continues:
"These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents; nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state; they belong to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his origin. Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard every human being's right of life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death."

The creative act from which we take our origin - YOUR LIFE - is from God - it is not a right granted by the government! Further:

"The moment a positive law deprives a category of human beings of the protection which civil legislation ought to accord them, the state is denying the equality of all before the law. When the state does not place its power at the service of the rights of each citizen, and in particular of the more vulnerable, the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined . . . As a consequence of the respect and protection which must be ensured for the unborn child from the moment of conception, the law must provide appropriate penal sanctions for every deliberate violation of the child's rights."

Not only do most of our elected politicians NOT respect, protect and provide FOR the unborn child from the moment of conception - they have advocated against what God has created - by pursuing and enacting legislation to provide for the destruction of life in the womb!
In conclusion:
2274 "Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being."
With knowledge comes responsibility - and so now that we know - WE are responsible for acting in accordance with God's natural law. For those who may say: I don't agree with everything the Church teaches - then you disagree with the Holy Spirit - with God Himself - because the Church is led by The Holy Spirit of God.  As Catholics we have a responsibility to act in accordance with God's natural law and defend unborn life - all life - from the womb to the tomb.

Please, pray on it and ask the Author of Life to guide you to His Truth. If you do . . . He will!
