THE Most Important Tip for A Catechist

Without prayer WE will be teaching the class - not God. We must ask the Holy Spirit to work through us - to give us the words, the actions, the silence, whatever is needed to do His will.

I arrive at class early and spend a few minutes in the chapel, or in the classroom praying. If that's not possible you can pray in the car! Turn the radio off - ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and work through your heart and your hands. Ask Him to give you the words. He will - He never fails! God bless you.

Here's a Quick Way to Understand Pope Francis

To understand the "missionary mandate" of the Church is to understand everything Pope Francis has been saying ever since the Holy Spirit appointed him Supreme Pontiff of the Holy Catholic Church.

The media has been going wild quoting Pope Francis - but is he saying anything new? Absolutely not. The Catechism can help us understand:

Mission - A requirement of the Church's catholicity
849:  The missionary mandate. "Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be 'the universal sacrament of salvation,' the Church, in obedience to the command of her founder and because it is demanded by her own essential universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all men": "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and Lo, I am with you always, until the close of the age."

851: Missionary motivation. It is from God's love for all men that the Church in every age receives both the obligation and the vigor of her missionary dynamism, "for the love of Christ urges us on." Indeed, God "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth"; that is, God wills the salvation of everyone through the knowledge of the truth. Salvation is found in the truth. Those who obey the prompting of the Spirit of truth are already on the way of salvation. But the Church, to whom this truth has been entrusted, must go out to meet their desire, so as to bring them the truth. Because she believes in God's universal plan of salvation, the Church must be missionary."

And so - it is really quite simple:

To be honest our previous pontiffs have all done the same - each in their own way! The Holy Father is "going out to meet" all men (meaning men and women) where they/we ARE - so as to lead - by proclaiming the Gospel message to all - so that all may achieve salvation. The Holy Spirit has gifted us with a true missionary Pope. I pray that many will come to know the Truth of the Gospel - Jesus Christ - through the missionary zeal of the Holy Father.

"We ought "to live sober, upright, and Godly lives in this world."
Titus 2:12

Which path will each one of us take today? I've learned from experience that when I "go my own way" things can - and do - go wrong very quickly. God's path is narrow - but it's the sure, joyful way.

For example: when I reflect on past relationships (friendships and/or romantic) where Faith in the Lord was not the foundation I can see that they were like sand castles - they crumbled as soon as they were hit by the slightest of waves. Some even ended in heartbreak or despair. When I go my own way things don't go very well.

It's work to stay the narrow path - but the fruits are worth it! Character, endurance, patience, compassion, purity of spirit . . . these things and more are built up in us - making our own lives and the lives of those around us better - more joyful! We CANNOT and WILL NOT go wrong when we live in Faithful obedience to the Lord, turning to Him and allowing Him to guide us in all that we do.

This week let's exercise our spirits the same way we would our physical bodies! Friends, discipline is mastery of the self and will make us stronger - the same way curls make our biceps stronger.

I am fairly certain that each one of us will be provided with an opportunity to be of assistance to somebody in need today! If it's inconvenient for us to help them - all the better! An act of self sacrifice - especially for ones spouse, an elderly stranger or perhaps a handicapped individual - will increase ones own joy (and theirs) tenfold. Try it today and watch what happens! Offer to help somebody carry something, help someone load groceries into the trunk of their car, help an elderly person across the street, pay someones small bill on the checkout line, smile at a stranger! There are many ways that we can help one another today. I'd love some feedback if this has touched anybody's spirit today. It's always encouraging to hear of the joy that comes from helping others.

Lord, please guide us all in everything we do this day. Let it by Your way Lord, not ours. Send down Your Holy Spirit to give us the words or the silence as needed to do Your Holy Will. Let Your words be said through US Lord, Let Your Hands work through ours! I ask for a special blessing upon each and every person who prays this today. May they be a blessing to others and may all grow closer to You, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Pope: “It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars,” he said. “You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else.”

Pope Francis did not say NOT say to "loosen up" on Church teaching or important issues as secular media is flooding the headlines with and would have you believe - he simply reminds us of where we need to begin - with our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the secret which Papa shares with all of us! May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire Pope Francis to do His Will - and may we all have "ears to hear!" Amen.

What has become of the Catholic Church these days? Every time Pope Francis opens his mouth it's front page news . . . praise God! Unfortunately secular/mainstream media love to sensationalize, misquote and quote him out of context.

Everything the Holy Father has said is IN LINE with Catholic teaching.
His words are only a shock to those who don't truly understand the Catholic Faith. Pope Francis said that Homosexuality, abortion and contraception are important issues - BUT there are other things to talk about - the Church should not be focusing ONLY on these things. Off base secular media translation: "Pope WARNS Church to loosen up on abortion, homosexuality and birth control." HUH??? It never ceases to amaze me.

This is the direct teaching of our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ and EXACTLY what Pope Francis said - when he stated that RULES are not more important than the Gospel message! This is why Jesus healed on the sabbath, even though it was "against the law." Because PEOPLE always come first. Share the Good News, Jesus LOVES you! Share the Gospel message FIRST AND FOREMOST and morality etc will flow from this! NOTHING NEW HERE FOLKS.

An excellent article by Brantly Millegan addresses 16 main points that the Holy Father spoke about - and provides DIRECT QUOTES IN CONTEXT. Please - read his words for yourself instead of "briefing" and relying upon sensational headlines.

In addition, here are another EXCELLENT article by Catherine Harmon of "Catholic World Report" containing three pieces of advice about Pope Francis interview:

Enjoy . . . DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE and have a blessed day. And remember - in the words of our Lord reiterated in the message of Pope Francis - Jesus Loves You!
