During the Mass, Pope Francis will consign his Apostolic Exhortation “Evangelii gaudium” (The Joy of the Gospel) to a group of people representing various walks of life and ministries. EWTN Rome Bureau Chief Joan Lewis, who has covered the Church for almost 35 years, will be one of only two media professionals to receive the Exhortation on behalf of journalists from the hands of Pope Francis himself!

“I feel honored and humbled to have been included,” Lewis said. “When Archbishop RIno Fisichella, head of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, announced the news about the Exhortation on Monday he said it ‘will be delivered to all those in various stages of life who, as Christians, are called to be evangelizers. … The Year of Faith thus becomes a commitment that the Church assumes her duty once again to bring the Gospel to every creature.’”
One viewer, who heard the Vatican announcement, wrote to Lewis saying: “You have given your readers 'YEARS OF FAITH' and are truly deserving of this honor.”
The papal Exhortation is under embargo until Tuesday, Nov. 26, when it will be officially presented at the Holy See Press Office.

The Year of Faith was inaugurated on Oct. 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and officially ends at the Closing Mass on Sunday, Nov. 24.

The Purposeful, Systematic Destruction of the American Dream

Obama and his administration have destroyed healthcare for years to come.

It's actually an ingenious, diabolical plan - they've accomplished a lot for the "master" they serve - in one fell swoop:

1. Government successfully forcing citizens to PURCHASE something - anything - is TYRANNY! They've done this so called "legally" - and presented it in such a way that many willingly EMBRACE it!

2. Violation of religious freedom/persecution of Christians by forcing all to pay for contraception/abortifacient and sterilization coverage - effectively forcing a violation of conscience - in ADDITION to population control - with WILLING participants! 
 No need for gas chambers - they found an ingenious way for us to annihilate ourselves - and presented it as "women's healthcare"! 

3. For those of us who worked all of our lives to earn salary and benefit packages - to now receive lesser healthcare and lose established relationships with trusted physicians/medical professionals as they are booted from plans/plans are eliminated to to Obamacare!

4. Establish further control over American people by causing us to be without adequate, or ANY healthcare - making us  more vulnerable and dependent on the new, socialistic, BIG, Gov't.

I'm beginning to think that this was the plan all along. Obamacare fail will force us all into a one payer system. All you need to do is look at the record numbers of people who've joined medicaid since the healthcare website bomb to see the truth in this.

The damage this POTUS has done to our Country, WITH the support of the majority of citizens before our very eyes - will take decades upon decades to repair.

And don't even get me started with the military cuts. It's gotta stink to take orders from a POTUS/commander in chief who is destroying our country :(

Pray for America and ALL World Leaders

Our world is in a state of turmoil. It is tantamount that here in America, and throughout the world we pray for our leaders in order to enact real and lasting change.

St. Paul stresses this in Scripture. 1Timothy 2:1-3 tells us:
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth."
I am currently participating in a Bible study and this is one of the readings we meditated upon recently - and it spoke strongly to my heart - prompting me to sit at my computer and write this immediately after my morning prayer.

Christians are experiencing horrific persecution in the world at large - and although it's not physically violent here in America - it's all out spiritual warfare.

Morality and values are under attack and the government infringes upon our religious and personal freedoms ie: HHS Mandate/Obamacare, NSA spying, etc. Catholics in positions of power have completely ignored and turned against the teachings of Mother Church and her Founder to aggressively promote and institute intrinsic/non negotiable evils - particularly abortion.

When we attend Mass Catholics  do pray for world leaders - and I'm sure other Christians do at services. We must also remember to do so in our daily prayers. We need to follow the Holy Scriptures and remember to pray for "kings" and "those in high places" that we may experience "quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way." I leave you to ponder another verse as well. May the Lord speak to your heart. James 4:1-2:
"What causes wars, and what causes fightings among you? Is it not your passions that are at war in your members? You desire and do not have; so you kill. And you covet and cannot obtain; so you fight and wage war. You do not have, because you do not ask."

A nation that turns her back on God will not continue to be blessed.

EWTN Files New Suit
Against Contraception Mandate

State of Alabama Joins as Co-Plaintiff

Irondale, AL – EWTN Global Catholic Network filed a new lawsuit October 28 in Federal Court against the Department of Health & Human Services, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and other federal agencies seeking to stop the government from imposing the HHS contraception mandate as well as asking the court to find that it is unconstitutional. The State of Alabama, through its Attorney General Luther Strange, has joined EWTN as a co-plaintiff in the lawsuit.
“EWTN has no other option but to continue our legal challenge to the mandate,” said EWTN Chairman and CEO Michael P. Warsaw. “The revised rules, published by the government in July, have done nothing to address the serious issues of conscience and religious freedom that EWTN has been raising since the mandate was first published last year. The government has decided that EWTN is apparently not religious enough to be exempt from the rule. It has still placed us in a situation where we are forced to offer contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs as part of our employee health plan or to offer our employees and their families no insurance at all. Neither of these options is acceptable. The mission of EWTN is not negotiable.”

EWTN’s original lawsuit opposing the mandate was filed Feb. 9, 2012, but was dismissed by Federal Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn on March 25, 2013. In her order dismissing the original suit, Judge Blackburn noted that the government had promised to implement a new rule addressing the issues raised by EWTN. Blackburn’s opinion stated that “common sense weighs in favor of withholding judicial review until new regulations are created and finalized. At that point, if EWTN still has objections, it may then file suit.”
The Department of Health and Human Services issued a new set of rules on July 23, 2013 which Secretary Sebelius claimed addressed the concerns of EWTN and other similar organizations. 
“When the government opened up a period for public comment earlier this year in advance of publishing its revised rules, EWTN submitted extensive remarks and an explanation of its moral objections to the mandate,” Warsaw continued. “We sincerely hoped that our concerns would be addressed. Instead, the government ignored our comments entirely and pressed forward with a rule that changed nothing. We are in the same position today as we were when the mandate was first published. 
“As an organization that was founded to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church, we do not believe that contraception, voluntary sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs constitute health care.  We simply cannot facilitate these immoral practices,” said Warsaw.
“Version 2.0 of the mandate is just as bad as version 1.0,” said Lori Windham, Senior Counsel at the Becket Fund, which filed both the original and new lawsuits on EWTN’s behalf. “It would still force the world’s preeminent Catholic network to betray publicly the very teachings it was founded to promote, and which it promotes on a daily basis.”
In 2012, shortly after the first EWTN lawsuit was filed, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange petitioned the court to join the EWTN complaint. In this new lawsuit, the State of Alabama has joined EWTN as a co-plaintiff from the start.
Commenting on this new lawsuit, Attorney General Strange said, “I am proud to stand with EWTN to oppose this unconscionable mandate. … The freedom of religion, and to believe as one sees fit, is our ‘first freedom’ under the United States Constitution. The people of Alabama have recognized the importance of this freedom and have enshrined it in their Constitution as well. Alabama law does not allow anyone to be forced to offer a product that is against his or her religious beliefs or conscience.”
“EWTN is extremely grateful to Attorney General Strange for his support on this important issue. The Attorney General clearly understands what is at stake here, not just for EWTN, but for all people who feel that government cannot take away the right to religious freedom,” said Warsaw.

What Does The Catechism Teach About Abortion?

Many Catholics do not know what their Church teaches, or why - but most of us do know the difference between right and wrong. Always - we are to "Speak the Truth in Love" Ephesians 4:15.

So what is the truth regarding Church teaching on abortion? All Church teaching is garnered from Scripture - the Word of God.
Let's take a look at an excerpt from The Catechism Part Three - Life in Christ:

2273 The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and it's legislation:  The inalienable rights of the person must be recognized and respected by civil society and the political authority.

Since this is true - how can any Catholic justify supporting or voting for a politician who advocates for abortion legislation?

The catechism continues:
"These human rights depend neither on single individuals nor on parents; nor do they represent a concession made by society and the state; they belong to human nature and are inherent in the person by virtue of the creative act from which the person took his origin. Among such fundamental rights one should mention in this regard every human being's right of life and physical integrity from the moment of conception until death."

The creative act from which we take our origin - YOUR LIFE - is from God - it is not a right granted by the government! Further:

"The moment a positive law deprives a category of human beings of the protection which civil legislation ought to accord them, the state is denying the equality of all before the law. When the state does not place its power at the service of the rights of each citizen, and in particular of the more vulnerable, the very foundations of a state based on law are undermined . . . As a consequence of the respect and protection which must be ensured for the unborn child from the moment of conception, the law must provide appropriate penal sanctions for every deliberate violation of the child's rights."

Not only do most of our elected politicians NOT respect, protect and provide FOR the unborn child from the moment of conception - they have advocated against what God has created - by pursuing and enacting legislation to provide for the destruction of life in the womb! 
In conclusion:
2274 "Since it must be treated from conception as a person, the embryo must be defended in its integrity, cared for, and healed, as far as possible, like any other human being."
With knowledge comes responsibility - and so now that we know - WE are responsible for acting in accordance with God's natural law. For those who may say: I don't agree with everything the Church teaches - then you disagree with the Holy Spirit - with God Himself - because the Church is led by The Holy Spirit of God.  As Catholics we have a responsibility to act in accordance with God's natural law and defend unborn life - all life - from the womb to the tomb.

Please, pray on it and ask the Author of Life to guide you to His Truth. If you do . . . He will!

Interview with Founder of One Million Vet March: We will NEVER Forget!

We Are The Salt conducted a telephone interview this morning with Larry Ward, political director for special operations groups in Washington D.C.

Larry is responsible for organizing and implementing yesterdays "One Million Vet March" on Washington. The following is our conversation.

Larry, how did this all begin? Who contacted you? 
I was initially contacted by the group "Special Operations Speaks" to help build the action committee to oppose the leaks of the Bin laden raid. When Navy Seal Team 6 was named as the team that got Bin laden they were outraged. They operate in the shadows, they didn't want to be known. This leak put their lives at risk. Then when the 2012 Benghazi attack occurred this group began leading the charge on getting the select committee for the congressional investigation.

"Special Operations Speaks"? Who are they?
The group is made up of Green Berets, Navy Seals and more, you wouldn't believe it. 1000 special op veterans put their name, rank and serial number on the petition to demand a select committee for Benghazi. It's landmark. Nothing like this has ever happened before. This past August we unrolled a 60x4 foot scroll - the longest petition ever delivered to the White House.

Larry, what was the atmosphere like yesterday, during the One Million Vet march?
Electric. The veterans were peaceful, they were there to make a strong point. When the vets spontaneously tore down the memorial barricades, they neatly stacked them like the trash that they are in front of the White House. It was very emotional, and I announced that "now we need to take down the barricades from the Vietnam memorial and the Lincoln memorial and storm the White House," and they did. Park Police were shouting and threatening the assembled veterans, but I have sympathy for them. They don't typically "guard" memorials, that's not their job.

Is there anything else you'd like to add, Larry?
YES. The media and the government keep changing topic to distract the public from the Benghazi attack. "Special Operations Speaks" want them to know it will NEVER be forgotten and they will NEVER desist in demanding answers.

I'd like to note that in the course of my phone interview with Larry - we were disconnected THREE times. We had no doubts in our minds that it was the NSA.

One Million United States Veterans marched on Washington today to make their voices heard - with little to no media coverage.

It is disgraceful that the men and women who served their country - many now in wheelchairs - have been treated in such a vile manner by their own government. Every American citizen should be outraged. Since the so called "Government shutdown" military veterans have been denied benefits, Mass on military bases (chapels locked up) and access to their own war memorials - yet 85% of the government has remained operational. This move is sheer spite work on the part of a prideful, arrogant POTUS and administration. Nobody needs God more than they do.

As they marched in the rain today these great patriots sang songs including the National Anthem and God bless America. What has this country been reduced to, where the commander in chief so greatly disrespects and dishonors those who have served this nation?

Since God has imprinted His Love upon us and "destined" us to share it - we can NEVER be satisfied without it. 

We would always feel that something is missing - this is why the quest is endless. 
So please - for your own sake - don't rely upon the things or imperfect people of this world! There is a perfect love - the Love of God - just waiting for YOU to accept it. 

I know this from personal experience. I returned to Church 17 years ago and I'm here to tell 'ya - the holy water didn't boil and the steeple did not cave in lol - and I found a peace I had never, ever, known before.

The Catechism says:
27 The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. Only in God will he find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for.

We can all feel the truth of this within our innermost being - because God has written it there. I leave you with a short meditation from Scripture. Please try  - if only for a few minutes. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

Sit in  a moment of silence. Read this short excerpt of God's Word slowly - then read it again (this is know as Lectio Divina.) Let the Word of God - Your loving Father - sink into your soul. Seek Him - turn to HIM - and you will know lasting peace and joy that this world can never give.

What Exactly IS Gossip and How Can We Avoid It?

"It is better to bite your tongue than to gossip" because "your tongue will be swollen and then you will not be able to speak." Wise words from Pope Francis - who frequently addresses gossip without pulling any punches. As always Papa drives the point home - challenging us to become better people and stronger disciples of Jesus Christ.

The truth is that Gossiping is a SIN, leads to even more sin - and hurts others. It falls under the Eighth commandment: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

From "The Catechism Explained":
"We ought to refrain from everything that may wound our neighbor's honor. Thus suspicion, detraction, slander and abuse are forbidden, also listening with pleasure when our neighbor is spoken against."
"Detraction, slander (both of which are directed against the absent) and abuse (which is directed against one who is present), are sins of the tongue; listening with gratification when another is evilly spoken of, is a sin, if it is in the evil speaking that we take pleasure."
From the Catechism of the Catholic Church: 
2479 "Detraction and calumny (lying) destroy the reputation and honor of ones neighbor. Honor and witness given to human dignity, and everyone enjoys a natural right to the honor of his name and reputation and to respect. Thus, detraction and calumny offend against the virtues of justice and charity."
We know what lying is, but what exactly is detraction? I'll unpack it a bit:

From "The Catechism Explained"
"Detraction consists in disclosing the fault committed by another without necessity. This sin, the lessening of our neighbor's reputation, is an act of injustice towards him. For if he is really guilty of some secret sin, still he has not lost the good opinion of others and of this we rob him if we publish his misdeeds, even though he has no right to it"

WOW.  Even if he is guilty. What does this mean? Many times if somebody wrongs us (sins against us) we "vent" to a friend. So is "venting" just a convenient way to rationalize gossip? We are never justified when we "detract" another by telling an unkind truth - even if the other person is in the wrong. Thankfully Our Blessed Lord Himself gave us the formula to follow when He addresses how to handle such a situation within the Church community. We can apply to our personal lives too:
"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector."   Matthew 18:15-20
So what's next if we speak directly to the person and they still won't listen? In a family this could involve siblings calling in their parents as mediators - or even a married couple calling in good, Christian counsel. For me this would mean calling in one of my parish priests, deacons - or a trusted Christian friend. (For some this would also be"taking it to the Church.")

Treating one as gentile or a tax collector within the Church means excommunication - a grave matter and last resort. For a personal relationship this could mean distancing oneself or even moving on depending on the situation - something that will take prayerful discernment on ones own part.

I'm grateful that Jesus Christ laid it all out for us in The Scriptures! Being human we may still be tempted to wag our tongue  - perhaps then we should take the advice of Pope Francis and bite it "so it will be swollen" and then - we cannot speak at all.

There's A Battle Going On! Whose Side Are You On?

Most of us realize that we are embroiled in a daily spiritual battle. Even if you don't know it, or worse yet, you think you're not - you are. The tragedy is that by denying it you leave yourself unarmed . . . but that's a topic for another day.

Peter is a "Fisher of men" as mandated by the founder of the Church Himself: Jesus Christ. Pope Francis has been in the boat  - rocking it - and casting his reel into the raging ocean of our disordered culture.

When Papa starts fishing - ie: reaching outside of the church to those in need - and yes they are in need (as are we all) - we the Church have been grumbling. 

Father Matthew (a priest friend of mine) called Pope Francis a "pot stirrer." Amen! Papa knows how to stir things up. He knows how to reach out - to atheists and to aggressive secularists. Papa said the other day in the "La Repubblica" interview that "the spark of Divine Light shines within us all." The Holy Father is attempting to uncover this light in everyone . . . not an exclusive FEW - but all.  Pope Francis said a few key things yesterday that clarify everything he has been saying and doing.

"The church, which is holy, does not reject sinners, it does not reject all of us

I love this one from the Holy Father:
"In the church sinners don't encounter a judge ready to throw the book at them, but the father portrayed in the Gospel parable of the Prodigal Son, a father ready to throw a party when his son comes home after "hitting bottom." 
And just as God waits with open arms - God wants "a church that knows how to open its arms to welcome everyone. It is not the house of a few, but of everyone"

 And Most Importantly:
"God is always waiting for you."

In addition Pope Francis posed a question for all Catholics:
"Catholics should ask themselves, "Are we a church that calls and welcomes sinners with open arms and gives them courage and hope? Or are we a church closed in on itself?"

The Pope has not strayed from Catholic teaching. Not at all. Not an iota. It's all in Scripture, it's all in the catechism. And if we know anything about our Blessed Lord - he's fulfilling the mission of the Church as mandated by Jesus Christ Himself. See Here: Understand the Catechism to Understand The Holy Father

 A few days ago the Holy Father consecrated the Vatican to Saint Michael the Archangel. My guess is this: he knew this was needed.

So I pose another question to the Catholics who grumble, point fingers and label the Holy Father as a progressive and a liberal:  
Whose side are you - WE - on? Jesus came for sinners. Papa is trying to save sinners - and so the Church grumbles and gossips.  Pope Francis is fighting the good fight on the very front lines of this spiritual battle - grabbing souls from the clutches of the enemy! So are we going to join him on the front lines - follow his example and help him fight - as disciples of Christ - or are we going to grumble, debate and argue among the ranks?

And so I leave you with this from the Holy Father's Sept. 25th, 2013 address :
"Badmouthing seriously harms the Church. People don't realize how much it hurts, how it can wound others. It is better to bite your tongue: when you do that, your tongue swells up and you can no longer talk".

POPE FRANCIS: "I'm not Francis of Assisi and I Do Not Have His Strength And His Holiness."

According to "Patheos" Catholic Blog - Pope Francis has not only reached out to the most anti-Catholic publication in Italy "La Repubblica," but personally offered and granted it's founder Eugenio Scalfari one of the mind blowing interviews the Holy Father is becoming famous for.

I'm still digesting the Holy Father's most recent interview  - arranged by Papa himself down to the telephone call - much to the surprise even of  Scalfari. The interview  is straight forward and easily understood - and they cover A LOT of territory.

THE Most Important Tip for A Catechist

Without prayer WE will be teaching the class - not God. We must ask the Holy Spirit to work through us - to give us the words, the actions, the silence, whatever is needed to do His will.

I arrive at class early and spend a few minutes in the chapel, or in the classroom praying. If that's not possible you can pray in the car! Turn the radio off - ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and work through your heart and your hands. Ask Him to give you the words. He will - He never fails! God bless you.

Here's a Quick Way to Understand Pope Francis

To understand the "missionary mandate" of the Church is to understand everything Pope Francis has been saying ever since the Holy Spirit appointed him Supreme Pontiff of the Holy Catholic Church.

The media has been going wild quoting Pope Francis - but is he saying anything new? Absolutely not. The Catechism can help us understand:

Mission - A requirement of the Church's catholicity
849:  The missionary mandate. "Having been divinely sent to the nations that she might be 'the universal sacrament of salvation,' the Church, in obedience to the command of her founder and because it is demanded by her own essential universality, strives to preach the Gospel to all men": "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and Lo, I am with you always, until the close of the age."

851: Missionary motivation. It is from God's love for all men that the Church in every age receives both the obligation and the vigor of her missionary dynamism, "for the love of Christ urges us on." Indeed, God "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth"; that is, God wills the salvation of everyone through the knowledge of the truth. Salvation is found in the truth. Those who obey the prompting of the Spirit of truth are already on the way of salvation. But the Church, to whom this truth has been entrusted,must go out to meet their desire, so as to bring them the truth. Because she believes in God's universal plan of salvation, the Church must be missionary." 

And so - it is really quite simple:

To be honest our previous pontiffs have all done the same - each in their own way! The Holy Father is "going out to meet" all men (meaning men and women) where they/we ARE - so as to lead - by proclaiming the Gospel message to all - so that all may achieve salvation. The Holy Spirit has gifted us with a true missionary Pope. I pray that many will come to know the Truth of the Gospel - Jesus Christ - through the missionary zeal of the Holy Father.

Which path will each one of us take today? I've learned from experience that when I "go my own way" things can - and do - go wrong very quickly. God's path is narrow - but it's the sure, joyful way. 

For example: when I reflect on past relationships (friendships and/or romantic) where Faith in the Lord was not the foundation I can see that they were like sand castles - they crumbled as soon as they were hit by the slightest of waves. Some even ended in heartbreak or despair. When I go my own way things don't go very well.

It's work to stay the narrow path - but the fruits are worth it! Character, endurance, patience, compassion, purity of spirit . . . these things and more are built up in us - making our own lives and the lives of those around us better - more joyful! We CANNOT and WILL NOT go wrong when we live in Faithful obedience to the Lord, turning to Him and allowing Him to guide us in all that we do.

This week let's exercise our spirits the same way we would our physical bodies! Friends, discipline is mastery of the self and will make us stronger - the same way curls make our biceps stronger.

I am fairly certain that each one of us will be provided with an opportunity to be of assistance to somebody in need today! If it's inconvenient for us to help them - all the better! An act of self sacrifice - especially for ones spouse, an elderly stranger or perhaps a handicapped individual - will increase ones own joy (and theirs) tenfold. Try it today and watch what happens! Offer to help somebody carry something, help someone load groceries into the trunk of their car, help an elderly person across the street, pay someones small bill on the checkout line, smile at a stranger! There are many ways that we can help one another today. I'd love some feedback if this has touched anybody's spirit today. It's always encouraging to hear of the joy that comes from helping others.

Lord, please guide us all in everything we do this day. Let it by Your way Lord, not ours. Send down Your Holy Spirit to give us the words or the silence as needed to do Your Holy Will. Let Your words be said through US Lord, Let Your Hands work through ours! I ask for a special blessing upon each and every person who prays this today. May they be a blessing to others and may all grow closer to You, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Pope: “It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars,” he said. “You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else.” 

Pope Francis did not say NOT say to "loosen up" on Church teaching or important issues as secular media is flooding the headlines with and would have you believe - he simply reminds us of where we need to begin - with our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the secret which Papa shares with all of us! May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire Pope Francis to do His Will - and may we all have "ears to hear!" Amen.

What has become of the Catholic Church these days? Every time Pope Francis opens his mouth it's front page news . . . praise God! Unfortunately secular/mainstream media love to sensationalize, misquote and quote him out of context.

Everything the Holy Father has said is IN LINE with Catholic teaching. 
His words are only a shock to those who don't truly understand the Catholic Faith. Pope Francis said that Homosexuality, abortion and contraception are important issues - BUT there are other things to talk about - the Church should not be focusing ONLY on these things. Off base secular media translation: "Pope WARNS Church to loosen up on abortion, homosexuality and birth control." HUH??? It never ceases to amaze me.

This is the direct teaching of our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ and EXACTLY what Pope Francis said - when he stated that RULES are not more important than the Gospel message! This is why Jesus healed on the sabbath, even though it was "against the law." Because PEOPLE always come first. Share the Good News, Jesus LOVES you! Share the Gospel message FIRST AND FOREMOST and morality etc will flow from this! NOTHING NEW HERE FOLKS.

Sharing My Experience Of Lectio Divina

 This past Spring I served as a facilitator at my parish during our "Oremus" prayer retreat. Local priest Fr. Mark Toups developed this series and I can tell you it was a wonderful experience.

Primarily we practiced the art of "lectio divina" as recommended by then Pope Benedict XVI for this "Year Of Faith." Lectio Divina (Latin for divine reading) is an ancient tradition of praying the Scriptures. It's a great form of contemplative prayer in which one rests in God's Presence, slowly reads and re-reads a Scripture verse and then meditates on it - talking to Him and finally - listening to God speak to your heart.

I had a great experience with lectio divina this morning while meditating on Psalm 23 and I wanted to give you just a brief sharing. In this particular experience I had a visual - similar to imaginative prayer but not quite the same. I saw beautiful sunshine and blue skies, and a vast green pasture - as long as I kept my eyes on the Lord. When I took my focus off Him and looked to the side I saw many dead trees and a dark, vast forest. It came to me to see a beautiful, white sheep wandering off the beautiful path and into the dead looking forest - away from HIM. I wondered - where would it go? How would it find it's way in that dead place? Why did the sheep even want to leave His glory? Why do WE? Yet this is exactly what I myself do when I take my eyes off of Him . . . I wander into the darkness.

I ended the prayer wanting to keep my focus on Christ always! I realize that in this daily spiritual battle the enemy is always near - prowling, reaching out to grab us so he can destroy our very souls. He and his minions attack on all sides - but I will "fear no evil" for He "is with me!" As long as I keep my eyes on the Lord and follow HIM - the adversary and his minions are powerless! It seems difficult and yet it's so simple! I - WE - must walk in Faith. Obedience isn't popular anymore - but that's what we must be - trusting Him for everything and listening to His voice. He always goes before us providing a way! All we have to do is follow.

Action/Adventure Movie Review: Pilgrims Progress

If you'd like a movie that can be enjoyed as a couple, with friends or as a family - this is your film - complete with monsters and action for the men!

"Pilgrim's Progress: A journey to Heaven" is adapted from the John Bunyan novel written in 1678. It is the timeless story of spiritual warfare . . . the progress of the Christian soul throughout this lifetime. It is as relevant (if not more so!) now as it was when it was written.

In this contemporary rendition complete with special effects we see the main character "Christian" fight demons as he makes his journey through the world and towards the heavenly gates. The narrow path ain't the easy one and Christian is led astray more than once - aren't we all familiar with this! The film gives visual evidence to our difficult but rewarding journey of Faith by showing actual battles, sword fights, etc with evil creatures/situations and even a giant troll (he looks like an evil "Shrek,") who imprisons & tortures Christian and a companion. I purchased this film from Amazon because netflix does not have it.

Since there are some fight sequences with demons you may want to preview the film if you have small children. Great messages are heard/seen throughout the movie (based on Scripture.) But don't expect "Hollywood style" acting. Some of the acting is not as "developed" as theirs . . . but I will take these sincere performances over hedonistic Hollywood any day of the week! It's a really GOOD movie. I give it two thumbs up! Enjoy!

It's that time of year again: warm weather, sunshine, picnics. Oh - and mini-skirts & short-shorts. At Church. On 14 year old girls who are attending Mass with their parents.

It's not healthy to live in the past - but I miss a few things of days gone by. Two in particular: Reverence and Respect.

Men wearing shorts, tee shirts and tank tops - their son's attire reflecting the example of the "role model" (ie: Star Wars shirts, etc.)Women and young girls wear tight dresses with plunging necklines . . . tube tops . . . exposed arms and backs. Worse yet mini skirts - and they aren't baggy.

I believe that people don't know - they truly don't realize what they do! I wish somebody would've clued me in - back when. I've learned the value of modest attire - especially at Mass.

I want to share with my brothers & sisters - to  pass on knowledge - because we all want to approach the altar of our Lord with reverence and respect - don't we?  For example: In the past, I didn't know that a woman should not be sleeveless in Church. Now - I always wear (or bring) a light shrug - easy peasy!

Most parents don't intentionally want to sexualize their children or teach them a lack of respect - but this is exactly what they are learning with current styles of immodest dress. Parents - don't cave to "peer pressure!!" HOW will they learn if not from us - from YOU?? You are the teacher, the role model. Be a parent first, friend second - lest you do your child a grave injustice.

When we are invited to a black tie affair - a wedding - do we show up in shorts and a pirate shirt proclaiming "HEY - they're just lucky I'm here!"
If we had dining reservations would they let you through the door in a tee shirt?  YET - if we showed up for Holy Mass - the Wedding supper of the Lamb - and weren't allowed in because of our attire - many of us would be OUTRAGED. Some might even tell EVERYONE within earshot how "strict," "old fashioned" and "out of touch" the Church is.
YET . . . off we go in our collared shirts and tea length dresses to obey the dress codes at our favorite restaurants.

Reverence. Respect. Values. 
Why not begin a Sunday morning "family tradition?" Dress appropriately for Church and teach our children to do the same. Attend Mass cleaned up & lookin' pretty! Perhaps after Mass it's off to breakfast or lunch - or a change of clothes for a fun, family activity.

God is thrilled to have YOU in Church. We can't know a person's circumstances and we are not there to condemn. LOVE is above the law- Jesus teaches us this . . . and BECAUSE we love - we want to be reverent and respectful. And so - a line must be drawn when it comes to modesty at Holy Mass.

Here's what the Catechism teaches:
 “Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest.”  #1387

“Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing.” #2522

We love the Lord!! So let us celebrate the Holy Eucharist in thanksgiving with modesty, decency, respect for the Lord and for one another - and above all -  great JOY!
