We are The Hands of Christ

The Missionaries of the Poor

EWTN ran a special yesterday about the amazing mission of these priests and brothers - and I was moved to tears to the point that I knew the Holy Spirit was at work. These compassionate men are most definitely the hands of Christ. They ease the pain of so many who suffer from lack and excruciating physical (and spiritual) neglect.  I cried my eyes out through the presentation and I was determined to help with prayer, spreading the word, a donation and I hope some day to volunteer at one of the missions (feeling called to Jamaica.)

I visited their website which explains that you may help in several ways. You can donate money or much needed supplies - or you may volunteer at one of their locations (they put you up in their housing.) As I watched and listened to Fr. Richard Ho Lung he began to remind me of Blessed Mother Teresa. It isn't long so please - take a quick look:


May God bless each and every one these holy men for their sacrifice and compassion. May the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ cover, enable and protect them in their daily work and in their rest. May He continue to work through them to bring healing, happiness and the knowledge of Christ's love to  those who would otherwise die in the streets (literally) - having never known even the smallest of comforts. And may other souls be touched as deeply as I've been - so that we too may act as the hands of Christ and together provide the means for this mission to continue. I ask all this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Election 2012: The Catholic Dilemma

I've known all along that I'm voting for Romney. I went into this with the realization that I would be voting for the lesser evil. However, after the first debate I felt better about my choice to vote for Romney. I found him to be clear and concise in his responses, stating the facts without faltering. Since he is a businessman he may even be able to get us out of this fiscal mess. Romney is also bold in his faith, never hesitating to announce "I believe in God." Since I am Catholic his pro-life position has been big for me - even bigger when he chose Paul Ryan as his running mate.

Sadly, last night I saw an ad actually endorsed by Mitt Romney stating that he supports contraception - and abortion in certain cases. Now, I fully realize that these cases - rape, incest and the mother's health - constitute less than one percent of all abortions statistically - perhaps this is how he views it. But as a Catholic I was sorely disappointed and even sickened when I saw this ad. I cannot post the video here. Having said this -  I'm still voting for Romney because he is clearly the lesser of two evils. President Obama supports abortion, infanticide, sterilization and contraception 100% of the time. Heck, he even wants your employer to pay for birth control - even if it goes against everything they believe in - including their religion. Further I will not contribute to what has already begun to take place at the new Kremlin, er, umm, I mean the White House: the socialization of America.

As Christians we are always called to prayer - and I do include the current administration in my prayers. Now more than ever we need to pray hard for Mitt Romney . . . that he will become enlightened to the fact that no matter how a baby is conceived - it is always innocent.

Answer: Because the goal is to achieve salvation & inherit eternal life and the ONLY way to get there is through Jesus Christ.  Not long ago Cardinal Wuerl said that a "tsunami of secular influence has swept across the cultural landscape." Hear Hear!

The secular notion that we should keep Faith "in a box for Sunday"  contrasts with the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Church.

"If we live by the Spirit (Gal 5:25), we will be led by the Spirit (Gal 5:18). We will then walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:25), Who will produce in our lives the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). However, if we stifle (1Thes 5:19) or sadden the Spirit (Eph 4:30), we will do the works of the flesh (see Gal 5:19-21.)"
When we "walk the walk" in our daily lives we surely do encounter hostility from secularists. We hear it in the workplace, "leave your Faith at home!" We hear it when we speak of politics, "Leave your Faith out of this!" Secularists deny God - and they want us to do the same.  NO! We cannot and we WILL not. Our Blessed Lord instructs us to boldly proclaim the Truth in everything we do. We are either FOR Him or we are against Him. Weren't most of us secular at one time? I'm thankful that someone had the courage to walk in the Spirit and plant the seeds of Faith in my own life.


Goal: Salvation!

A Christian who keeps their Faith in a box is an antithesis and cannot "bear the fruits of the Spirit." Let us ask God for the grace to walk BOLDLY in Faith - not only for ourselves but to help lead others to the path of salvation! Don't let the enemy gain their soul - or your own. BE BOLD. Here's a small example: I watch very little secular media. I seek out Christian entertainment because I won't entertain myself with anything that is offensive to God. When asked to watch a movie, I answer honestly. THUSLY I've received more than my share of derogatory comments, eye rolls etc. - but I don't care! I know I am blessed with each eye roll and every negative comment. I realize that inner purity and being a Christian role model are the bigger issues here.

As followers of Christ we are all called to be "doers of the word and not just hearers." The narrow path provides lasting joy! When we "walk the walk" we are living proclamations of His Word to all we meet - and God's Word never fails to bear fruit - Never.

34th Anniversary of Election of Pope John Paul II the Great

Is there anyone who does not remember the chant, "John Paul II, we love you!" I remember it well and he truly was beloved. How blessed we were to have such a holy pope for as long as we did. Today we honor and remember him in a special way, because it is the 34th anniversary of the election of Cardinal Karol Wojtyla as Pope. We did and still do love him.

If you haven't seen this movie it is excellent. Both Cary Elwes as the young Karol and Jon Voight as Pope John Paul II give powerful and moving performances. (Even my husband "the action movie man" liked it and there is plenty of action!)

Fr. Barron On The Dark Forces

Father Barron's commentary on the devil is educational and informative (as he always is.)  There were a few things Fr. Barron brought into a whole new light for me - when he demonstrated that they are of the darkness!

Saint Paul instructs us in the need for vigilance when he tells us in 1Peter 5:8 RSV to "Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 

I pray that more hearts will come to realize that we are all - each and every one of us - engaged in a daily spiritual battle. Not believing it does not make it so, but it will put your soul in peril. We cannot fight effectively if we are not armed! 

I leave you with the words of Saint Paul in his letter to the Ephesians. "Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil," and "stand therefore, having girded our loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the equipment of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith, with which you can quench all the flaming darts of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Pray at all times in the Spirit, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints and also for me , that utterance may be given me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel."

Since when are our shepherds--our bishops--supposed to "represent" ill-informed, badly catechized Catholics who don't practice their faith?
Gimme a break! If married Catholic couples DID what the Catholic Church provides --NATURAL family planning-- their bodies, spiritual lives AND marriages would be better off AND healthier.
But no--poison your bodies, disorder your married lives and disobey the unchanging teaching of the truth by the one Church that Jesus Christ GIFTED us with. How do you think that will work out for you when you stand before Him, or even before that, as your bodies respond to the poison the pharmaceutical companies sell you and you toss out the trust and bonding that NFP enhances?
Educate yourselves! And don't expect the bishops to "represent" you if you willfully disregard the teaching they are entrusted to share.

VP Joe Biden: Laughter is Good For the Soul

As an American I was sickened and embarrassed last night. If you watched the debate then you already know that our Vice President was rude, arrogant and just plain disrespectful. Biden spent the first 30 minutes of the debate yelling at Paul Ryan in addition to interrupting him constantly - which the moderator Martha Raddatz allowed. At one point both the moderator and VP Biden interrupted Ryan at the same time! 

As if this wasn't bad enough Biden cackled, grinned, sighed, smirked and outright laughed while Paul Ryan was speaking. In fact he was laughing so hard at times I was waiting for him to fall off his chair. He was anything but Vice Presidential up to and including his mastery of the English language. When he told Paul Ryan that this is just a "bunch of stuff" the moderator actually asked him in a serious tone, "bunch of stuff-what is that- explain to me-I don't know what that means." "It's Irish" Paul Ryan interpreted. Apparently Biden is fluent in the use of Irish phrases since he used the word "malarkey" several times as well.

 When the issue of abortion was raised Biden's hand waving, finger pointing and hollering ceased. "Angry Joe" and "Laughing Joe" were gone. "Funeral director Joe" was on the scene with a new somber tone. My stomach turned when Biden called himself "a practicing Catholic" since his views/actions (in this case pro abortion) are not in keeping with the Faith. Sitting in a pew once a week for an hour does not make one a practicing Catholic - any more than watching a football game makes one a football player. I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten him and that "the unknowing" will not view this man as an example of a practicing Catholic.

Each one of us is a work in progress but public figures like Biden (and nuns on the bus) who actually contrast with Church teaching send the wrong message. When all the hilarity is said and done a very bad taste remains in my mouth. It is discomforting at the very least to know that this rude, obnoxious man could very well become President of the United States if necessary.

The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has declared a "Year of Faith" which begins today and ends on November 24, 2013. He is calling for Catholics to enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus, experiencing a deeper conversion of Faith.

In the apostolic letter "Porta fidei" Pope Benedict begins:
"1. The “door of faith” (Acts 14:27) is always open for us, ushering us into the life of communion with God and offering entry into his Church. It is possible to cross that threshold when the word of God is proclaimed and the heart allows itself to be shaped by transforming grace. To enter through that door is to set out on a journey that lasts a lifetime. It begins with baptism (cf. Rom 6:4), through which we can address God as Father, and it ends with the passage through death to eternal life, fruit of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, whose will it was, by the gift of the Holy Spirit, to draw those who believe in him into his own glory (cf. Jn 17:22). To profess faith in the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – is to believe in one God who is Love (cf. 1 Jn 4:8): the Father, who in the fullness of time sent his Son for our salvation; Jesus Christ, who in the mystery of his death and resurrection redeemed the world; the Holy Spirit, who leads the Church across the centuries as we await the Lord’s glorious return."

Baptist Universities file suit against HHS Mandate

God brings good out of everything - and it's always amazing to watch Him work!

Iron is forged through fire and we are surely going through the fire now. The American Church is being persecuted to an extreme we've never seen before - and at the hands of our own government. 

We now see Americans - Christian, Jewish, Morman (Glen Beck, Mitt Romney,) etc - standing up, praying together and fighting for our God given right to freedom.The beautiful thing that's come out of Obama's HHS Mandate is this solidarity we are currently experiencing. The fight for religious freedom has us holding hands like never before!

 I have made a personal choice to stay focused on blessings like this regardless of what happens. I will continue to stand alongside my fellow Americans, pray without ceasing and fight the good fight.  As always my Faith will sustain me and I will take comfort in the assurance of our Blessed Lord that "the gates of hell will not prevail!"

Hear O Lord the Sound of my Call

Recently a song popped into my head and it's been running through ever since. I find myself singing it, humming it and I just can't shake it! I asked my husband but he said he's never heard it. I remember being in Church with my grandparents as a child and singing it along with my grandmother.

Franciscan Friars of the Renewal

Father Groeschel is one of the founding Fathers of The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. He is  responsible for housing and feeding untold numbers of poor and homeless throughout the years (his work is well documented.)

Since my return to the Church about 15 years ago Father Groeschel (through watching EWTN) has been one of the inspirational forces in my own re-discovery of the Faith. It is so unfortunate that the controversial comments he made regarding victims of sexual abuse  - in his advanced age and after suffering a recent stroke - would negate (for some) a life spent in the service of others.

Recently, before Father made this comment I spoke to my husband about father's show "Sunday Night Prime." "Father seems to be losing his train of thought," I said, "and he can barely breathe! The poor man sounds breathless." It was obvious that he had trouble just sitting up in his chair and that he was using oxygen tubes. God bless him for attempting to carry on!


My own father suffered from several strokes at a much younger age than Father Groeschel. I know from experience that in most cases the body and mind are never the same. I cannot begin to explain how hard it is to watch a loved one suffer in this way.

"I apologize for my comments. I did not intend to blame the victim. A priest (or anyone else) who abuses a minor is always wrong and is always responsible. My mind and my way of expressing myself are not as clear as they used to be. I have spent my life trying to help others the best that I could. I deeply regret any harm I have caused to anyone."
"The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal organization also apologized for Groeschel's remarks, noting that they were out of character for him and stemmed from infirmities due to his 2004 car accident and a recent stroke. Father Groeschel was mentor to many, including Father Gordon J. Macrae.

The truth is that Father Groeschel has long been known among treatment professionals to take a hard line in regard to credible accusations against Catholic priests. He has long been known to advocate for the removal from all public ministry when priests are credibly accused. He has not advocated for forced laicization, a process that simply discards an accused priest, but he has for decades taken a position that no priest known by the Church to have been an abuser can EVER minister in a parish again. The truth is that if Father Benedict Groeschel had been listened to more closely over the decades of the 1980s and 1990s, the scandal of 2002 might have looked very different.

Father Groeschel strongly advocated for strict supervision and strictly enforced internal administrative assignments in all cases in which abuse by a priest was determined to be true. His public and private positions have always been the same, and were the polar opposite of what some in the news media now attribute to him."

So please, give father a break. Don't we all - even the physically and mentally healthy - err? (In my own case there have been many.)  

I STILL LOVE AND RESPECT FATHER GROESCHEL.  This has not changed. I'm only sorry that I never traveled to attend one of his live speaking engagements or Mass celebrated by him. Long live Father Groeschel.

John Paul II International Film Festival


I had never heard of this film festival until a tweet went out the other day providing a link to the "2012 official selections." Needless to say I was thrilled! This event honors the "views and ideals" of Blessed JP2G, and promotes faith based films. With only a few exceptions most of these films do not receive mention in the secular media - not surprising.

It simply amazes me that I have never heard of this 2 week long event before! The festival which was implemented in 2009 takes place in Miami Florida. From the website:

I watched each one of the trailers and was pretty much blown away by everything I saw. I was happy to see that "For Greater Glory" with Andy Garcia is there;  a mainstream film depicting the importance of religious freedom.  I would like to mention that "The Way" stars actors Martin Sheen and (director) Emilio Estevez. For the most part the remaining films do not feature known actors - a fact that matters little.

How to Plead the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ


Several months ago I visited a friend at her home while she was recuperating from surgery. She brought up the subject of "pleading the Blood," and asked me if I ever prayed this way. This was something new to me. I knew there was great power in the Blood of Jesus Christ, but I never heard it put this way before. 

Sometimes I asked God to let a few drops of the Precious Blood fall upon my a person's heart. But she recommended that I actually "plead the blood of Christ" when I pray. "Plead it over everything!" she stated emphatically. She told me to plead the Blood on myself, my husband, our loved ones, our homes, vehicles, relationships, health, jobs, finances, etc.

Not long afterwards another friend mentioned praying in this way! She also had been pleading the Blood - on everything. She then gave me a great gift: a cd detailing how to plead the Precious Blood - by a priest named  Father Anthony Ozele.

It's really nothing new, when you think about it. Most of us know this prayer:
"Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in atonement for my sins, and in supplication for the holy souls in Purgatory and for the needs of Holy Church." And also the prayer of St. Faustina, "O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a Fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You."

The really beautiful thing is that The Blood of Christ has already defeated the enemy!! 
The evil one cannot stand against the victorious Blood of Christ, so anything you cover in the Precious Blood is protected! I have since learned that there is great power in pleading the Blood. This is one of the most powerful and effective ways I have ever prayed. 


I offer one simple example: My husband and I had been plagued by a neighbor's lawn service blowing garbage onto our property. After all the hard work we put into gardening, cutting the grass etc. - it was annoying. On the CD Father Ozele said to "walk along your property line and plead the Blood" and I did it. I wasn't thinking about our problem - only about protecting our property. I walked the property line in the back, front, and sides - praying and pleading the Blood of Jesus Christ as I walked. 

The following week I began to notice something - the garbage problem was no longer occurring, day after day . . . after day. Then, it hit me: I had covered the property in the Precious Blood!! I was SO excited I could hardly contain myself. "Honey! I plead the Blood on the property and look!!! No more garbage!!!" My husband looked at me as if I was nuts, but I KNEW that was why.

Since then I have been pleading the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ over everything and everyone - and God has been answering my prayers. Father Ozele points out that you must be careful with this form of prayer. Pleading the Blood is powerful. It is so powerful that since the enemy cannot attack you in those areas, he will work around them by attacking you in any other areas you have NOT covered in the Precious Blood. My friends you must be diligent.

When you are praying for a loved one you must cover EVERYTHING in the Blood. Feel free to use/adapt my prayer for an individual: 

"I Plead the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ on my husband's heart, mind, body, spirit and his eternal soul. I plead the Blood over the air he breathes, over his vehicle and over the roads it travels. I plead the Blood over his coworkers and over any space he occupies today. I plead the Precious Blood over the Sacrament of our marriage, and I plead the Precious Blood over any and all spirits that are not of You Lord, over any demonic spirits that come against him or our marriage!" 

When I pray over our home: "I plead the Precious Blood over every inch of property, the roof, the windows, the doors, the air and every room within this house." 
Be thorough.When I am finished pleading the Blood I seal it with the Lord's prayer and a Hail Mary. Father Ozele stresses  the importance of doing this.

Important: Father makes one exception in not pleading the Blood over everything! 
If you are praying for somebody whom you don't know very well, he points out that you do not know the state of their heart. Even if you think you may know them . . . you do not know their heart. He indicates that in this case it is important to start slowly by offering their heart to the Lord - and pleading the Blood on their heart ONLY - then slowly progressing over time to plead the Blood over their body, mind, etc. I don't recall the reason for this but I have followed his instruction and prayed in this way.

What is more powerful . . . what is a greater gift than the Precious Blood of our Lord shed for us and for our sins? The demons cannot stand up to it and I highly recommend this form of prayer.

Another prayer that is very helpful and powerful: Father Machado's powerful prayer of deliverance, exorcism and healing.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

It's short, sweet (fun!) and to the point. The second is a lecture by  Krisane Hall, a woman I had the pleasure of meeting recently. She is an attorney and a pastor's wife.
